  • iOS Updates - Apple® iPhone® 4
  • [Device-Specific Instructions]

  • This provides instructions for updating the software/iOS on your iPhone.

  • Note Notes:

  •     The Apple iPhone requires the latest approved software version. Installing other software versions (e.g. Beta versions, unapproved software versions, etc.) could cause issues with activation, apps and other device functionality.
  •     To verify the iTunes software version, refer to iTunes: How to find which version you are using for assistance.
  •     iOS updates can be either optional or automatic. The on-screen prompts of the iOS download, backup and update may vary.

  • Caution Caution:

  •     If the device fails to reboot after performing the iOS update (e.g., device freezes/hangs), perform the reset method.
  •     The iOS update process may take several minutes.
  •     To avoid potential data costs, it's recommended to connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  •     Don't interrupt the iOS update while in progress.
  •     The Cellular Data update method may not be available for all iPhone models for certain iOS updates.
  •     Depending upon the iOS file size, the update may require being performed using the Wi-Fi or iTunes update method and not the Cellular Data update method.
  •     If unable to perform the over-the-air (OTA) iOS update, perform update using the iTunes method or remove unneeded files to free up available memory.
